Preparing for a circumcision procedure is essential to ensure a smooth and successful experience.

At Circumcision Doc, we provide detailed pre-operative instructions to help you or your child get ready for the procedure. Below are the steps and guidelines to follow before the circumcision.

Consultation and Evaluation

Before your circumcision, it’s essential to follow these pre-operative instructions to help ensure a successful procedure and smooth recovery:

Initial Consultation

Schedule an initial consultation with our experienced medical team. During this appointment, the doctor will evaluate your or your child’s health, discuss the procedure in detail, and answer any questions you may have. This is the time to discuss medical history, allergies, current medications, and any concerns.

Medical History and Physical Examination

A thorough medical history and physical examination are conducted to ensure there are no underlying conditions that could complicate the procedure. Inform the doctor about any chronic illnesses, recent infections, or surgeries.

If the circumcision is being performed under general anesthesia, fasting may be required. Typically, patients are advised not to eat or drink anything for at least six hours before the procedure. Specific instructions will be provided during your consultation.

Hygiene

On the day of the procedure, bathe or shower thoroughly to ensure the genital area is clean. For infants and young children, this may involve a gentle bath. Older children and adults should pay special attention to cleaning the genital area without causing irritation.

What to Expect

Arrival at the Clinic

Arrive at the clinic at the scheduled time, usually about 30 minutes before the procedure. This allows time for check-in and any last-minute preparations.

Pre-Operative Area

You or your child will be taken to a pre-operative area where vital signs, such as blood pressure and heart rate, will be checked. The doctor will review the procedure one more time and answer any last-minute questions.

Anesthesia

Depending on the age and preference, local or general anesthesia will be administered to ensure a pain-free experience. Local anesthesia involves numbing the area around the penis, while general anesthesia induces sleep for the duration of the procedure.

Necessary Tests and Consultations

Blood Tests

In some cases, blood tests may be required to check for clotting disorders or other medical conditions that could affect the surgery. This is more common in older children and adults.

Pre-Anesthesia Consultation

If general anesthesia is being used, a pre-anesthesia consultation may be necessary. This involves meeting with the anesthesiologist to discuss the anesthesia plan, risks, and any specific instructions related to anesthesia.
